How to Get Involved in Your Community

I've listed some ideas to get involved below based on a ministry category. Once you figure out what you want to do, someone at your church would love to talk with you! They're always looking for volunteers. If you haven't figured out your passion yet, click here.
There are also some ministries that aren't directly tied to a church if you prefer to go that route, like Big Brother Big Sister, Urban Ministries, Food Banks, etc.
Kids:
If you love interacting with kids, some possible options are Sunday School, Kid Camps, Programs, Events...there are tons of opportunities from infants to 12th graders.
Business:
If you've got a head for business there are multiple jobs and committees that need filling. I'm not as familiar with these so I'm not going to list them. Definitely talk to someone at your church to get plugged in.
Adults:
If you just love being around other adults consider Kids Camps (adults have way more fun than the kids), sponsor or be a part of an Adult Sunday School or an Adult Bible Study group, or join the Outreach/Event team.
Homeless & those in need:
If this is where your heart is being called, most churches have community outreach programs. You can head up a project in your area, like fixing up a home (this falls under 'missions' too). Join church events like Stock the Pantry, and related events to gather food & necessities for the homeless & those in need. Talk with your church representative to see what all they do.
Missions & Travel:
If your church has a mission program, whether it's local to your state or if they travel out of the country, this is something to look into. Not all churches have this opportunity, but some churches that do allow you to join a team, even if you're not a member there.

If you've read my post about Passions, I talk about how youth got put on my heart. To fulfill that passion I joined Big Brother Big Sister, I volunteered with a youth ministry, I taught VBS, & I led a 5 yr old Sunday School class. I joined a bible study group and made new friends. I took meeting minutes for a church committee. And I got connected to a church that did travel abroad missions (to check out those posts click the country: India, Africa, Costa Rica, Belize).
The committee thing wasn't working for me so I gave it one year and then left. And that's okay if it happens to you. Some of these are more time consuming than others, so consider that as well. Use your trial & errors and your heart to figure out where you belong, keep searching until you find a fit.
Most importantly- Pray to God about it! He answered my prayers in spades.
So what are you looking to get into? What's your heart calling you to do?
Have I left any opportunities out?
Let me know if I can pray for you :)
