First off, congratulations!! You’re a Mrs. now!!

My marriage license took 4 weeks to get to me, a weekend passed, and then I basically had 2 days to accomplish things before the ’30 days’ were up.

Day 1:

  1. Social Security Card

  2. Driver’s License (Voter Registration at the same time)

  3. Have your spouse put you on their insurance and/or visa-versa if you’re doing that. Make sure the insurance dates it within that 30 days. (Cody’s insurance put the date as our wedding date, which messed up the 30 days with my insurance by the time I could show proof I was on Cody’s. So now I have to wait until renewal time to switch, which is a bummer.)

Day 2:

  1. Bank- Cards, Checks, Loans, IRAs/CDs/etc

  2. Passport (if you’re not traveling for awhile this can wait)

  3. Car Title & Registration (this was in the same building as the passport for me)

  4. Work- Name update, Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement, W-2 & W-4 forms, badge, business cards, logins/phone/IT things

  5. Doctors/Pharmacies- many you can do online

  6. Utilities- many you can do online/call

  7. Insurance- auto, home, etc

Day 3/whenever you have time:

  • Memberships- gym, library, clubs, magazines, etc

  • Voicemail

  • Social media/emails, if you haven’t already

  • Make sure your parents or anyone listing you in their Will or as a Beneficiary changes your name

And you’re done!! It’s time consuming but rather easy. I hope you don’t have any trouble as you go through this process. Good luck and congratulations!
