In my 50 Free Date Ideas post I mention Geocaching. It's something I've always wanted to try so I'm hoping this blog will give me the boost to do it. My friends Alina & Chris do it, maybe I need to call them for a double date and have them teach us the ropes. Anyways, in that post I link to the Geocaching website. There are a few different app options.

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Once you find it, you sign the log book, and you can post about your finds online if you want.

Some items are 'tracking' items, and if you find one, you move it to a different cache.

Items can range from a film roll container to a bucket. You can bring stuff to swap out whatever is in the cache. Note: nothing will be buried, no digging required. But there are difficulty ranges from 1-5 (easy-hard). Be safe, don't trespass.

A fun fact for caching, those not in the community are called muggles. So you better get to it if you don't want to be a muggle.

Need more information?

If you're still not sure about signing up and trying it out, you can read this guide for further details.

Why is this a great date idea?

Geocaching is a great way to bond with whoever is doing it with you, and it provides a source of exercise, win win!

Have you geocached? What's your experience been? What app do you recommend?
